Why ants will pause if you met / met with other ants?. Ant that looks "complained the head" when he met was actually being communicated. T.C. Schneirla, a researcher at New York University, has conducted experiments with ants. He took an ant and then put in place of food. Other ants put in place that contains enemy ants. Then the second ant behavior is observed especially when bumped into friends on the street.

From that research, Schneirla concluded that chemicals released from food or from enemy ants ants attached to it. When meeting with his ants, the ants would greet each other (touching). Well, by greeting each of these chemicals the ants will tell his friend (via an antenna on his head ant) if the surrounding environment is no food or no enemies.
