1. Piper Alpha Oil Rig (The loss of U.S. $ 3.4 billion)
On July 6, 1988, there was a terrible accident on the Piper Alpha that killed 167 people and caused losses of U.S. $ 3.4 billion. This incident spilled 317 000 barrels of oil per day. The cause is due to the negligence of workers in the control of gas supplies around the drilling site. Two hours after the burst, there was an eruption of smoke up to 300 feet. Awesome!

2. Challenger explosion (value loss of U.S. $ 5.5 billion)
On January 28, 1986, space shuttle Chalenger, destroyed in the air just 73 seconds after take off.
